After a months-long search, the Board of Trustees announced on Wednesday June 21st that Jay Gonzalez will be the next president of Curry College. Gonzalez will start his presidency on July 31st, according to an announcement from Curry College and the Board of Trustees, becoming the college’s 15th president.
Gonzalez is currently a partner at Hinckley Allen law firm. Prior experience includes serving as president and CEO of CeltiCare Health Plan of Massachusetts and New Hampshire Healthy Families, Secretary of Administration and Finance for Governor Deval Patrick, and Adjunct Lecturer at Northeastern University School of Law. He was also the Democratic nominee for Massachusetts governor in 2018.
Board of Trustees chair, Patrick Hughes, sent an email to the Curry community earlier in the day to announce the news.
“This is an opportunity for a transformational leader to join Curry and coalesce the community around a forward-thinking agenda,” said Hughes. “Jay will be deeply dedicated to Curry’s mission and through collaboration with our faculty, staff, and students, will define a clear vision and strategic path forward for the College.”
Gonzalez will become the first Hispanic leader of the college.
Gonzalez also sent an email to the community stating he was very excited to begin this next stage of his career.
“I’m all in,” Gonzalez wrote in the email. “You are exactly the type of team and Curry is exactly the type of place with which I want to be associated.”
He added, “The work you do is meaningful, transformative and empowering for students, and you care deeply about doing it well. I can’t wait to join you in striving to deliver the best possible experience for students.”
He said he was eager to get to know the faculty, staff and students as the summer months roll along.
