Gas Smell Forces Building Evacuations

By Currier Times Staff///

The smell of gas in Levin Library forced the evacuation of several buildings on Curry’s campus, with some morning classes impacted, on Thursday, November 30th.

Around 10:15 a.m., an employee in Levin Library noticed a smell of gas, according to an email alert that Curry sent to the community. Out of “an abundance of caution,” the college evacuated Learning Commons, Levin Library, and AAPC, according to the statement.

Milton Fire Department came to campus with multiple trucks to help determine where the smell was coming from. Outside doors were opened in Levin Library, apparently in an attempt to disperse the gas smell. National Grid was also brought to the scene.

Students and faculty met in groups on the Curry Quad, after having been evacuated from their morning classes, while the fire department searched the buildings and aired them out.

At 11:10 a.m., the buildings were reopened and students and faculty were allowed back in when Milton Fire determined that the situation was safe.
