These pages have covered Curry’s Montie Quinn before, as the Running Back sensation broke record after record here on Curry’s campus.
And, now, the national media have their eyes squarely centered on Quinn after his explosive 522 yards and 7 touchdown performance at the Homecoming game against Nichols College on Saturday, October 18th, that ended with Curry winning 71-27.
Quinn beat out the previous DIII mark of 465 yards, and the previous DI record of 427 yards to earn this astounding new record.
According to Curry College Athletics, Quinn praised his teammates for giving him the chance to make history.
“I’m just humbled and grateful,” Quinn said. “Breaking the record is something I never imagined coming into today.” Quinn added, “The O-Line was dominating all game, receivers were blocking like crazy and coaches put us in position to make plays. This belongs to all of us. I just happened to be the one carrying the ball.”
Coach Todd Parsons said it was a tremendous and historic performance.
“What Montie did today was nothing short of amazing,” said Parsons. “Breaking the NCAA rushing record is a monumental achievement.”
Parsons, now in his fourth season, coinciding with Quinn’s arrival on team, echoed Quinn’s comments that it was a team effort that put Montie in position to achieve the unachievable.
“I think he’d be the first to tell you, records like this don’t happen alone. Our Offensive Line played lights out, our receivers blocked downfield, and our quarterback made great decisions.”
With all the accolades, one other honor occurred toward the end of the week. Montie autographed his history-making football, and it went off to the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.
