BY BRANDON MARTINS // APRIL 12, 2013 //

The 1-2 punch of Curry’s Ana Bottary and Mel Brickey was too much for the Wentworth Institute of Technology women’s lacrosse team to overcome Wednesday evening, as the Colonels pummeled WIT, 20-5.

Bottary and Brickey combined for seven goals and 14 points overall in the conference matchup at Katz Field in Milton. Junior Haley Carey added five goals. With the win, the Colonels improved to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Leopards fell to 1-7 overall, 0-5 in TCCC play

“It’s obviously awesome to get a big win like that, regardless of who you play,” said Bottary, a senior who finished with three goals and four assists. “I think we are a real force in this conference and our play is backing it up. The girls are working hard every day and it is really paying off.”

Brickey, a junior, scored four goals and assisted on three others. She also won 10 draws. Carey was extremely efficient on offense, scoring her five goals on just five shots.

“I was just taking any good looks that I had,” said Carey.

Wentworth was led by Jessica Houghton, who scored three goals.

Curry played all three of its goaltenders. Sophomore goalie Christina Wallis, who made two saves and allowed two goals in 19:57 minutes of play, earned the win. Kelton Vuilleumier replaced Wallis, stopping two and allowing one in 18:13 minutes. Finally, Annie Douglas made three saves and allowed two goals to finish out the game, playing in net for 21:50 minutes. Taking the loss in goal for Wentworth was freshman Hayley Patton, who made nine saves.

The Colonels actually trailed less than a minute into the game, but then went on to score the next eight goals. Curry led 15-3 at the break.

UPDATE: The Curry women’s lacrosse team defeated Nichols College on Saturday, April 13, 13-6. Bottary led the way again with four goals and two assists, while Carey added three goals and Brickey two. Wallis earned the win in net, finishing with 12 saves.
