UPDATE: Curry’s Homecoming Weekend was held over the weekend of October 20th. As the article below previewed, it featured a Golf Tournament, get togethers for family and alumi, a Sunday Brunch, and much more. While rain infiltrated the Saturday activities, there was still plenty to do inside and outside throughout the weekend, and the college said it was a success.
Every year, families come to reunite with their loved one who attends Curry College for a weekend of sports, fall activities and ultimately a bunch of catching up.
“Homecoming is a time when the whole community gets to come together and celebrate each other’s families,” said Victoria Tirado, junior Psychology major. “It’s probably my most favorite event Curry puts on.”
Nickolas George, a Communication student at Curry College, has been working alongside the planning committee for Homecoming weekend, for his internship. His favorite part of all of this has been the research that goes into making this event a reality.
One way that Nickolas has organized events for Homecoming weekend was taking into consideration what has worked for other schools. From there, Nickolas took some of those ideas and adapted them to cater to the Curry community.
A new Homecoming tradition that has been created is The Curry Classic Golf Tournament. To kick off the start of Homecoming weekend, a Golf Tournament will be held in Northborough, MA. Participants will attend a lunch and silent auction along with receiving goodie bags, door prizes and more.
Proceeds from events taking place at The Curry Classic Golf Tournament can be designated to a Curry program or Curry Sport.
Friday night, a “picnic under the stars” will be held in Westhaver Park outside the Student Center. For $15, attendees can participate in games and enjoy music provided by Curry’s own radio station WMLN-91.5 FM.
The first sports game to kick off the weekend is Curry Men’s Soccer against the University of New England at 6:00 p.m. and will wrap up the first day of Homecoming weekend.
Saturday will begin with a morning yoga session from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. led by Curry alum, Brittant Capozzi ‘10. Following this event will be Curry in the Classroom. Families are invited to see what a typical class session looks like at Curry. Some of the options include Hands-on Nursing or Marketing.
Women’s Volleyball will be taking on Nichols at 11:00 a.m. in the Dr. Eleanor Meyehoff Katz Gymnasium. At 1:00 p.m. Curry Football will take on the University of New England. The last game of the day will be Women’s Soccer, also facing the University of New England.
The most anticipated event of Homecoming weekend would have to be the annual Fall Fest. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Fall Fest will be held in Westhaver Park. You can expect to see the Muddy Water Food Truck with another surprise Food Truck.
Along with plenty of food, there will be different arts and crafts opportunities. There will be photo magnets, scrape art, and a face painter on site.
For those not interested in arts and crafts, there will be mini golf, various lawn games, and the ultimate family corn hole competition.
Curry College’s new President, Jay Gonzalez, will be hosting an event from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. that families are encouraged to attend. This event will provide more insight into President Gonzalez’s vision for the college.
Sunday will conclude the 2023 homecoming weekend. The morning will start with a charity hike at the Blue Hills Reservation at 9:00 a.m. Participants will be asked to make a $10 donation and all proceeds will go to the EvvGirl Foundation, a foundation created after the loss of a Curry nursing student.
The rest of the day will include alumni games such as baseball at 10:00 a.m., softball at 11:00 a.m., and women’s volleyball at 11:00 a.m. as well.
Whether you’re a sports person or want to just spend quality time with family and friends, Homecoming has a little something for everyone. .
“I would encourage everyone to take advantage of these events because they are very interactive, fun, and will help make a lot of lasting memories,” George said.
