In a historic NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament game, the Curry hockey team lost to number one seed Hobart by a score of 4-3 with 4:43 to go in fourth-overtime. The Elite Eight game in the NCAA Division III Hockey Playoffs, went into the early morning hours of Sunday, becoming the second longest hockey game in DIII history.
Curry started with an early 2-0 lead, but the defending national champions, and number one seed, Hobart, clawed back and eventually took a 3-2 lead in the third period. But Curry was able to score one last time in regulation, tying the score.
From there not one, not two, not three, but four overtimes is what it took for Hobart to beat the resilient Curry team.
The star of the game was Curry goalie, Shane Soderwall, who handled 98 saves, tying an NCAA D3 record. Soderwall earlier in the season had been named CCC rookie and goalie of the year.
Hobart controlled most of the face-offs, over 100 during the game. Hobart, the national champions last year, were given all they could handle by Curry.
In the end, there would be no Miracle On Ice for Curry, but this incredible season will not be forgotten by all of the Colonels fans from around the country, and around the world!

I was at the game last night… as a staunch Hobart fan. I was overwhelming impressed with the Curry team!! I commend the team for their excellent display of skills in all phases of the game. The goalie was absolutely phenomenal. I know that this may be bittersweet but I tip my hat to the most entertaining and well played hockey game I’ve attended over the past several years!!!! Don’t worry Curry, you’ll be back. I now have a new second favorite men’s hockey team.
