PHOTO GALLERY: Academic Showcase Features Projects from 80+ Curry Students

More than 80 students participated in this year’s Curry Academic Showcase, an annual event that attracts hundreds of visitors to learn about research projects the students have been working on. Below, Currier Times photojournalist, Matt Kaminsky, highlights a few of this year’s entries.

Austin Kessler, Mason Medeiros, Amie Sillah-asillah, all Computer Science majors and members of the class of 2024, demonstrate how they have a created an interactive map of the Curry College campus to allow students and faculty to easily navigate around campus by just scanning a QR code and searching the building that they would like to get to.
Maya Zaccheo ‘24 and Tre Geata ‘25, Natural Science majors, conducted an experiment to examine whether heavy metal contents can be detected throughout smoking products – both artificial chemicals and marijuana. 
Ahmad Quraiishi, from the class of 2024, and a Natural Science major, conducted an experiment on how insects could help forensic experts by providing DNA from a decaying body and determining the cause of death as well as gathering Evidence.
Brian Alperson, a Psychology major from the class of 2026, participated in a semester abroad in Ireland where he focused on the behavior of Irish residents. He noticed how humor there, especially in bars, people tend to say things that would be insults here in America, but there are also common phrases. 
Gabe Gomez, a Psychology major and member of the class of 2026, traveled to Ireland for a semester abroad. He focused on mostly the history and religion with a specific are of interest being places of religion and houses of worship.
Nick Norman, a Public Health and Wellness major and a member of the class of 2024, researched child poverty in New York City. He specifically noted that a lot of kids are getting diagnosed with asthma due to the poor air quality. His goal in life is that he can be part of a group that helps all children in the city get treated for asthma if they have it .
