Curry’s Men’s Basketball team has been on an unhappy run this season, with a record of 2 wins and 13 losses as of this writing.
Even with the losses, some plays that Curry have made were outstanding enough to make headlines, like Freshman Guard, Jaiden Mann, hitting a game winning 3 pointer to give Curry their first win of the season on November 21st, but other than that it’s not looking so good for their season this year.
Freshman Guard, Damon Folds, a Sports Management major from West Palm Beach, Florida, said the glimmers of excellence help motivate the team.
“It was pretty cool to see my boy Jaiden hit a game winning shot to give us our first W of the season,” said Folds. “I just hope we can still continue putting in work to seek for victories.”
Folds said the team is putting in the work, but the ball is just not hitting the net.
“We practice 5-6 days a week whether it is in the evening or in the morning,” said Folds. “We put in 100 percent effort and get better by the day.”
Since the start of January, Curry has played five games, winning a road game at the University of Hartford, 70-68. They’ve had four losses against Nichols, Wentworth, University of New England and Western New England.
Their next two games are home against Gordon on Jan. 22nd and Suffolk on Jan. 25th.
Curry assistant coach, Steve Goggin, said more focus will help them win more games.
“Our guys work hard every day at practice but we just lack communication and teamwork on defense,” said Goggin. “That’s why sometimes we lose our games, because our players get into their heads way too much which causes us to have some fallouts but we are still working hard to get some wins and snap our losing streak.”
Lastly, for Folds, he was asked about some advice he would give to players who want to try out for the team next year.
“All you got to do is work hard and show the coaches that you are dedicated to the game,” said Folds. “See me, I’m one of the shortest guys on the court standing at 5’10″, but I play my role and I put in effort in the game and that’s what coaches look for. It’s more about effort rather than skill.”
