Broadcast Script:

Natural sound of Fire Truck

Milton Fire is back on campus responding to another fire alarm.

SOT (Patrick Foley, Curry Public Safety Chief)

We take every alarm seriously you never know if its real or fake.

What’s causing these frequent alarms? The most common triggers: smoking in dorms, burnt popcorn, and even steam from showers. Some students try to hide it, covering smoke detectors—but that often backfires.

SOT – Student:

Getting up at 2 AM, then the fire truck can’t get in because the North Gate is always locked. It’s kind of an annoying process.

Stand-Up- Jonathan Stodolski, Reporting

Each time an alarm goes off, students are forced outside—sometimes in the middle of the night, right before an exam, or in bad weather. It makes students wonder if it’s even real anymore.

SOT-Student:

For the most part it is someone vaping. I’ve never really had any major concerns.

For firefighters, every alarm is treated as real. Milton Fire responds to Curry College dozens of times a month, stretching
resources. But no matter how often they’re called, their response remains the same.

SOT: Christopher Madden, Milton Fire Chief

We know the campus well. We’re here often.

False alarms have decreased due to new public safety policies. Past extreme cases even led to firefighters being stationed
inside dorms. Educating students before they move in helps prevent alarm activations.

False alarm or real emergency—it’s good to have firefighters right down the road.
