Curry Commencement to Feature Boston Marathon Survivor

Adrianne Haslet will receive an Honorary Degree and be this year’s commencement speaker. Haslet, a professional dancer, survived the Boston Marathon bombing, but lost her leg. Her resilience has spawned international acclaim over the past decade.

Adrianne Haslet was a professional ballroom dancer and runner when she lost her leg during the Boston Maraton bombing in 2013. Her remarkable recovery and resilience will be honored at Curry’s commencement on Sunday, May 19th.

Other honorees include Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox who is a 2000 graduate of Curry’s Master’s of Criminal Justice program, Colette Phillips, President & CEO of Colette Phillips Communications, Inc., and Dr. Sally Snowman (M.Ed. ‘89), the first and only female keeper of the Boston Light.

Haslet, who will also deliver the commencement address, created a documentary called “The Survivor Diaries” which received international acclaim.

The commencement will be held at Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA at 9:30 a.m. This will be the first commencement for Curry’s president, Jay Gonzalez, coming just over a month since his own inauguration ceremony.
