As the 2024-2025 Women’s Volleyball season starts to wrap up, the newly introduced Men’s Volleyball team will be starting their preparations for the upcoming spring season. Along with the newly added team, comes a brand new coach for both the Men’s and Women’s teams here at Curry.
Coach, Alex Adelman, has been busy since he got started here and has been working hard to bring his teams to success.
“It’s been an exhilarating year so far,” said Adelman. “Stepping into the role of head coach for both the Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams at Curry College has been a challenging yet rewarding experience.”
Coach Adelman added he has enjoyed becoming familiar with the teams.
“The initial transition involved getting to know the players, understanding their strengths, and integrating new coaching philosophies,” said Adelman.
As touched on before, Coach Adelman talked about using his coaching philosophies to better his team, as well as himself as a coach.
“One of the biggest changes I’ve implemented is a focus on building a strong team culture based on open communication and accountability,” said Adelman. “I’ve introduced regular team meetings where players can voice their thoughts and ideas. I believe this idea of personal feedback will elevate our performance.”
Players say having their own voice be part of the conversation is something that makes Alex Adelman an inspiring, new, young coach. He allows his program to have an open communication style, which benefits them as a whole.
Junior Women’s Volleyball player, Sonja Matheson, said Adelman’s new coaching philosophy has translated into their lives inside and outside of the sport.
“With our new coach it wasn’t just new for the freshman but it was new for all of us to get used to the new coaching style,” said Matheson. “I personally appreciate him a lot because I have been going through a tough mental block and he is always putting us first before himself. He wants us to do well together as a team and doesn’t care about wins and losses but wants us to be the best we can be as players but also in the classroom.”
Matheson added, “So I do really appreciate what he has done and how he is building this team to be better people.”

Adelman has his plate full with not only a focus on the Women’s team, currently in season, but the Men’s upcoming Spring season as well.
“The Curry Volleyball culture is all about inclusivity, hard work, and resilience,” said Adelman. “I want our players to feel like they’re part of a family—supporting each other both on and off the court.”
Adelman added, “My main focus this season is to cultivate an environment where every athlete can develop their skills and grow as a player. In the future, I aim to build a competitive program that consistently contends for postseason play while maintaining our core values of hard work, teamwork and sportsmanship.”
Adelman touches on treating his program as if they are a family, which shows his continuous philosophy that each member on the team is just as important as the next. This builds a bond within the team that is unbreakable.
“As we gear up for the men’s season, I’m particularly excited about the potential within our roster,” said Adelman. “I’ve seen a lot of talent and determination in our non-traditional practices, and I can’t wait to see how that translates into competition.”
He’s also excited to see people fill the stands to watch this exciting sport.
“I’m also looking forward to establishing a strong support base among our fans. Engaging with the community and getting them excited about Curry Volleyball is crucial, and I’m committed to making that happen,” said Adelman.
Sophomore, Brayden Maloney, will be one of the members of the new Men’s Vollyeball team.
“I met Alex Adelman late last semester and I immediately felt his passion for the sport,” said Maloney. “He is a young guy who is ready and excited to take over the Women’s program and start up the Men’s program. His goals align with the teams which is good for him because we all want the same thing.”
Maloney said the rest of the coaches are top notch too.
“Our assistant coach, Mason Wilix, has been a great addition to the coaching staff as well,” said Maloney. “She keeps the energy up at practice and she’s very passionate about the sport.”
Adelman expressed his excitement being a Colonel and the new start to the Curry College Volleyball program.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to coach at Curry College, and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead with both teams,” said Adelman. “This year is just the beginning. I encourage everyone to come out and support our programs. Whether you’re a student, alumni, or a local community member, your presence makes a huge difference. Let’s build something special
together!”
