Curry College has unveiled a new athletic Hall of Fame with a physical location in front of the Katz Gymnasium. During an opening ceremony in October, many inductees were on hand.
Through donations made by the family and friends of 1998 Curry Baseball Hall of Fame inductee, James O’Connor, class of 1959, also known as “Gentleman Jim,” Curry was able to open a physical location.
Vinnie Eruzione, the Director of Athletics, said the lack of a physical space to display athletic achievements was the reason for the physical hall.
“Every school has a Hall of Fame location, we did not and it has been something I have wanted to do for a long time,” Eruzione said. “Curry Hall of Fame members needed a place/location where they could be recognized on campus.”
Eruzione added, “We owed them an actual place where their athletic accomplishments could be honored.”
Recent inductees are proud of their Curry athletic careers. Ana Sadlers, class of 2013, and a 2023 Women’s Lacrosse inductee, said her coach, Caitlin Roberts, was key to her athletic success.
“She was always pushing me to be the best version of myself on and off the field,” Sadlers said. “When we had hard practices with a lot of running, she would be beside us doing the workout!”
Eruzione hopes that the Hall of Fame offers similar chances for student athletes to strive to become the best versions of themselves.
“Hopefully at some point through philanthropy, but also for current student-athletes to thrive to become members of the Hall of Fame and recognition,” Eruzione said.
Many current student athletes have already achieved many accomplishments. Senior Men’s Soccer Striker, Lucas Drons, a Biology major, has received numerous awards for his performance on the team.
“I was Rookie of the year in 2021, MVP in 2023, first team all conference and 2nd team all region in 2023, second team all conference in 2022, along with multiple offensive player of the weeks,” Drons said.
