The Curry College men’s basketball team won its first conference championship since 2008, defeating Gordon College Feb. 23, 69-63, in Milton. With the win, the Colonels advanced to the NCAA Division 3 tournament.
There, Curry fell in the first round to Middlebury College, 68-66, in Middlebury, Vt., on March 2. Curry was led by junior forward A.J. Stephens, who scored a game-high 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds.
Despite the early exit in the NCAA tourney, it was a tremendous year for the men’s basketball team, which went 21-8. The Colonels were an impressive 12-2 at home, and 15-3 in TCCC play. Guard Sedale Jones was named TCCC Player of the Year, averaging 22 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
