In the first of two games played at Curry on Marathon Monday, sophomore pitcher Thomas Fitzpatrick was nearly unhittable. Fitzgerald threw a complete-game two-hitter in leading the Colonels past Eastern Nazarene College, 4-0.
The win was Fitzpatrick’s third of the year, improving him to 3-2 overall. Fitzpatrick has been one of the most consistent starting pitchers for the Colonels this season. He has a 3.27 ERA and 30 strikeouts through a team-high 33 innings pitched. On Monday, Fitzgerald struck out seven, walked only one batter and hit another.
Curry also had a good day offensively, as it finished with nine hits. All but two of the starting nine players finished with at least one hit; freshman second baseman Timothy Lathrop and sophomore shortstop Derek Pizarro had two hits apiece.
It was not until the third inning that the Colonels were able to give Fitzpatrick some run support. Curry scored the first two of its four runs due to an error. The Colonels then plated another pair of runs in the fourth with back-to-back RBI singles, by Lathrop and Pizarro.
With the loss, Eastern Nazarene fell to 10-17, and a conference record of 1-10.
UPDATE: Curry lost the second game of the double header, 5-2. Senior Zach Walker took the loss for the Colonels, giving up five runs (three earned) and 10 hits over seven innings. Curry fell to 6-14-2, and 4-6 in TCCC play.
