Football Team Drops Opener

The Curry College football team is back in action and on the road tomorrow night, Friday, Sept. 12, as it takes on Fitchburg State University (7 p.m.). The Colonels dropped their season-opener last week, 29-7, to Worcester Polytechnic Institute. (See photo gallery below)

Turnovers cost Curry dearly against WPI. Quarterback Sean Conroy threw four interceptions, finishing 23-for-47, one touchdown and 217 yards. WPI’s Zach Grasis rushed for 120 yard and one touchdown on 21 carries.

Fitchburg State won its season-opener last week, defeating Becker 28-6. FSI quarterback Garrett Dellechiale threw for four touchdowns.

  1. Well the football team definitely has no chance now that Jordan Shairs is out for the season. Dissapointing that a college level coach can’t make smarter choice. Why an all american offensive player was punting makes absolutely no sense. He jeapordized the teams strongest players ability to ever play football again through his decision. It is sad to see the downfall of Curry Football the past few years. I think it is directly impacted by the poor coaching staff. It says something when the coaches son didnt even want to play for him and instead went to Curry’s rival school, Endicott. I think it’s time that Vinny look into a new coaching staff. At this point players are getting injured far too often.
