Botelho Striking the Right Chords

BY JESSICA ASCIOLLA // OCT. 29, 2014 //

Most college students spend their free time with friends, taking a nap, or getting involved on campus. Curry College junior Macayla Botelho spends her time singing, writing, and recording music.

On campus, you may have seen Botelho on stage with Curry Theatre and Pure Vocals. As a Communication major with a television concentration, she is constantly in the TV studio and in the radio station working on assignments. On weekends, Botelho rehearses and goes to a local recording studio to work on original music.

So far, she has done shows at The Middle East in Cambridge, Six Flags New England, the New Jersey State Fair, and the Simon’s 677 Club in Providence. Botelho typically performs an acoustic set with a mix of original songs and covers.botelho

She has been the opening act for local artists such as Jillian Jensen from American Idol, Jennel Garcia from X-Factor, and B-Capp, an artist signed by Snooki of “Jersey Shore” fame. She even opened up for a popular pop/rock band, Hollywood Ending, when they came to Boston in October 2013.

This semester, Botelho has been putting off her own shows to focus on an internship at iHeart Media Station Kiss 108 in Medford. She is also currently in rehearsal for the Curry Theatre musical “Into the Woods,” where she will star as Florinda, Cinderella’s evil stepsister.

In the next few weeks, Botelho will release new music on her YouTube channel as well as on iTunes. For updates on Botelho’s music, check out her Twitter page.
