Women’s Lacrosse Downs Worcester State, 20-8

BY JASON POMBO // March 31, 2017 //

The women’s lacrosse team welcomed the non-conference Worcester State Lancers to the Walter M. Katz Field Thursday afternoon in hopes of kicking their three-game skid.

The Colonels had started their season 3-6 while the Lancers just broke a three-game skid of their own to open their 2017 campaign 1-3.

Both teams came out firing, trading goals for about half of the first period. By the time there were 12 minutes left in the opening half, the game was tied at four. However, after that, it was nothing but Colonels.

Curry ended the half on a 5-1 run and went into the intermission with a 9-5 advantage over Worcester State thanks in part to a trio of seniors in Kelly Parker, Malorie Knowlton, and Abby Carnevale registering a pair of goals each in the first half.

without missing a beat. They steamrolled through the second half, scoring at will. Curry ended the game on a 9-1 run, extending their lead to double digits.

Parker concluded with a game-high five goals, and Knowlton finished close behind with four of her own. Carnevale and freshman Abby Dubel also added three goals each to help the Colonels win by a 20-8 margin.

Seniors Rachael Lawrence and Lauren Carroll both added a pair of goals as well, with both of Carroll’s coming in the second half on her birthday (Happy Birthday Lauren!).

The 12-point spread was their most dominant performance of the season. The Lancer defense showed little to no resistance, and the scoreboard reflected that. Head Coach Caitlin Roberts was very proud of her squad and thrilled by their performance.

“Today was the best overall game that we have played as a team, this entire season,” remarked Roberts. “We’ve been changing things up moving positions around, changing our strategy and today we finally executed it.”

Curry will look to keep moving forward going into their conference matchup with Nichols College Saturday afternoon in Dudley.
